FAQ

We stand at a rare and fortunate crossroads, a meeting with a highly esteemed Buddhist master of the Sayka lineage, His Holiness the 43rd Sakya Trizin. It is a profound privilege to welcome His Holiness, a celestial being who generously travels across continents to teach and bestow the blessings of the Dharma. Through his presence and the transmission of his blessings over the weekend, those fortunate to attend will be anointed into the Padma (Lotus) Family—the sacred lineage of Amitabha, specifically Avalokiteshvara, Padmasambhava, and Tara.

We invite you to absorb the information below and participate in any or all of the activities on offer at Nalandra during His Holiness's sacred tour in Australia.

About His Holiness the 43rd Sakya Trizin

Gyana Vajra Rinpoche, currently serving as the 43rd Sakya Trizin, is the current head of the Sakya school of Tibetan Buddhism.

He was born in 1979 on the auspicious day of Guru Padmasambhava. He is the second son of His Holiness the 41st Sakya Trizin. He exhibited remarkable qualities from a young age and received a formal education at the Sakya Centre and then Sakya College, under further esteemed guidance.

His Holiness is involved in many activities at the Sakya Centre. They include managing educational programs for resident monks, caring for youth in need by providing contemporary knowledge and recreational opportunities in a secure secular environment, and overseeing the translation of Sakya teachings and commentaries into English through the Gyana project.

His Holiness offers teachings all over the world and is fluent in English, Tibetan, and Hindi. He is known for his engaging teaching style, combining ancient wisdom with contemporary relevance. His approach to complex Buddhist concepts makes them readily accessible through relatable examples. Over the years, he has received extensive teachings from many renowned Tibetan Buddhist masters, enriching his understanding of both sutric and tantric traditions. Through his role of senior Khön family member. His Holiness embodies the principles of compassion and service, striving to guide others on their path to enlightenment.

2026 Visit to Nalandra

His Holiness’s Australian tour is being coordinated by Sakya Choekhor Lhunpo Victoria. Nalandra Buddhist Institute is honoured to host the section of his visit from 12–17 March 2026.  We, at Nalandra, feel deeply privileged to support the visit of His Holiness, the illustrious descendant of that great Sachen (Sachen Kunga Nyingpo, the founder of the Sakya tradition), to our centre in Healesville in the year of the fire horse. This exceptional combination of fire and horse promises profound transformation and swift progression on the path. We invite you to join in this rare opportunity.

We have requested the transmission of three essential empowerments for the sake of genuine practitioners to experience flawless compassion without compromise. His Holiness has kindly accepted our prayer to bestow the initiations of Avalokiteshvara, Padmasambhava, and in particular the tantra of 21 Taras initiations in a single bundle, and will point out the verse and mantra of each Tara. This includes Red Tara, Saraswati, Norgyun ma, Kurukulle, White Umbrella, Marici etc.

The three deities are of the same family. Avalokiteshvara fills the heart with compassion to raise wisdom, Padmasambhava fills one with hero-heartedness, while the 21 manifestations of great Green Tara fully fills the heart with a rain of blossom and reproductive energy. Together they are stems of glory; outer, inner and the innermost. Whether we are new to Buddhism or a seasoned practitioner, these blessings allow the mind to reach deeper into realisation of emptiness.

A master from an unbroken lineage since Vajradhara, and the fire of the horse, makes these initiations of the three lords immensely beneficial. By receiving the initiations, the power of the mantras multiply naturally.

OM MANI PADME HUM

OM AH HUM BENZA GURU PADME SIDDHI HUM

OM TARE TUTARE TURE SVAHA

These are mantras of perfection.
